Paper as a Textural Base

Trying this to see if I can figure out how to blog from my iPad:) not sure about the image size in the post, but here goes.

This weeks texture comes from a piece of handmade paper. This paper was printed for a journal. The image was combined with blending modes from 2 images. The first image the paper and the other image a detail of a page in Book of Forests 2.

Building Textures with Beverage Cans

These textures come for a couple of sections of a box that is constructed from digitally printed beverage cans, felted balls, waxed linen thread and beads.  The sections have been digitally manipulated to combine the 2 sections.

Digital and FIber in a Textural Surface

Using an alcohol transfer on watercolor paper as a base,  this textural surface was created by layering 4 other elements.  A piece of dyed burlap,  rolled and wrapped with crochet became the second addition.  The crochet piece grew to cover the surface and when finished, pieces of hemp were randomly tied to the crochet with pieces of digitally printed tyvek made the final part of the textured surface.

Altered Papers

Dying paper, digital printing and embellishing brings us to this weeks textures.  The materials in these surfaces contain digital prints on dyed paper, tissue paper, vellum and lace papers.  Once other papers,  fabric and burlap were dyed, painted, printed and torn, they were stacked 4 or 5 together and assembled with embroidery thread, beads, gel medium and wire.

Digital Print on Lutradur

This detail of Mariposa Grove 3 shows a digital print on melted lutradur.  This print has been stacked in several layers on a crocheted hemp base.  The lutradur is sewn in place with french knots and beading.

Net Overlay Texture

Building a textural surface in layers is one of my favorite ways to create.  This image is digitally printed on lutradur that has been heat distressed slightly.  The heat changes the edges and puckers the surface. On the top, a piece of polyester netting has also been heat distressed and beads and crochet with various threads and thin yarns are added to the netting.  The surfaces are connected with metalic thread.

Combined Texture

This weeks textural piece combines 2 images digitally.  The first is a photo taken on my property.  I then combined that with a fabric/paper collage.  Blending modes, selections and textures compose this textural print.

Digital Print Textures

This weeks textural creation consists of small randomly cut digitally printed squares, chained together with crocheted wire. The plan is for this to reach a very large mix of prints and wire for an installation.  It will depend on how fast it will grow to see if it will make the exhibition coming up in May.
